How to use this table

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you actually need — not by 44 hours. Eight hours a week of help with bathing and meals costs a small fraction of full-time care. The annual figure assumes the survey's 44-hour benchmark, which is full-time support. Rates are private-pay medians; Medicare home health (skilled, intermittent care) is covered separately when you qualify.

What changes the price

Hours needed, weekday/weekend and overnight premiums, the agency's minimum visit length, the type of aide (companion vs home health aide vs nurse) and local wage levels. Agency rates are usually higher than hiring an aide directly, but they include insurance, supervision and replacement cover.
